We are so excited to kick off our new blog series “Stitcher Spotlight” - a place where you can get to know some of our favorite stitchers - from their needlepoint projects to fun facts about themselves. First up is Kelsey Morgan! Not only is she a dear friend and integral part of the Coco Frank Studio team, she is an incredibly accomplished stitcher as well!
My name is Kelsey Morgan and I live in Washington, DC with my husband Rick, daughter Tilly, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Rollo! I’m a serial crafter, and I first started needlepoint in 2021 during COVID. (Fun fact, one of the first canvases I purchased was the Coco Frank Cavalier King Charles Spaniel!) At the time I was working in a large metro hospital as a clinical social worker, so I needed an outlet from the craziness that was healthcare during a pandemic. I learned from Thorn Alexander’s online guide and was immediately hooked. I started working at The Point of It All part time and I quickly built up a very, ahem, healthy stash. You can find me on Instagram @kels.stitches.ndlpt where I post my latest projects!
Favorite project you ever stitched or finished?
I love how my Coco Frank pumpkins turned out. I was really trying to challenge myself with stitching them in criss cross hungarian across six different colors. The compensation wasn’t as hard as I thought!
What’s your favorite canvas in your stash that hasn’t been stitched yet?
The Plum Stitchery Copenhagen canvas! It’s a big gal and on 18 mesh, so I just need to work up the courage to start it. I even picked out my threads I want to use!
What’s your must-have needlepoint accessory?
My trusty neck lamp from Amazon. I would immediately replace it if I lost it!
What advice do you have for someone new to stitching?
Try it and have fun! There are so many great resources out there to learn and I’m constantly finding something new or helpful on Instagram, YouTube, or my local needlepoint store!
What’s a Coco Frank canvas on your wishlist?
The 12 Days stocking! I love all of the sweet details and it’s such a good chance to use lots of fun threads and stitches.
If you could have dinner with any 5 people, who would you invite, where would you go, and what would you eat/drink?
I would pick my stitching group, we’d go to Florence and eat endless pasta and drink house wine in a little cafe on the Arno River while stitching. Saluti!
What’s something people wouldn’t guess about you?
I am an expert packer, like real life Tetris. Especially when it comes to packing a car or suitcase. A skill I learned from my dad who is the ultimate efficient packer!
What song can get you out on the dance floor? (Even if your dance floor is your kitchen!)
An all-time favorite is Earth Wind and Fire’s September. But the dance floor is definitely my kitchen!
Where can someone find you at a party?
I am absolutely sitting in the kitchen chatting with the hostess with a glass of wine! After offering to help, of course.
What’s your favorite or most played Spotify playlist?
Neon Cowgirl is on a heavy rotation. It’s a mix of fun, girl power songs. Reminds me of getting ready for a night out in college down South!
